Grok CLI GUI: Run the Grok Coding Agent in OpenBot
OpenBot gives xAI's Grok coding agent a desktop app on macOS, Windows or Linux, with your Grok account or an xAI API key. You get shared channels with agents on other providers, and an app on your phone.
How to set it up
Download OpenBot
For macOS 13 or later on Apple silicon or Intel, Windows 10 or later on x64, or x64 or arm64 Linux.
Connect Grok
Choose Grok, and OpenBot downloads and pins its own copy of the Grok CLI, or uses the one you installed. Then sign in with your Grok account, or set
XAI_API_KEY.Give your agent a job
Create an agent on Grok, choose its model, and give it a task. OpenBot makes a workspace folder for it. When the work grows, add agents on other providers to the same channel.
What OpenBot adds
A window for a terminal agent
Grok Build runs in the terminal, or in an editor that speaks the Agent Client Protocol. OpenBot gives it a desktop app with threads, files and a model picker.
A team, not one chat
Each agent has its own job and workspace. A lead agent gives parts of a task to other agents in a shared channel, and you step in when a decision needs you.
Your agents on your phone
The OpenBot apps for iPhone and Android connect to the computer that runs your agents, over an encrypted connection, with no VPN. Remote access needs an OpenBot account.
Change the provider, keep the work
Move an agent to a different provider and it keeps its role, workspace and conversation. Agents on different providers work in the same channel.
Your data on your computer
Workspaces, chats and files stay on the computer that runs OpenBot. The provider you choose gets the requests you send.
No account on one computer
OpenBot is free for noncommercial use, and it needs no account on one computer. Your agents use the plans you already pay for.
Official apps
The apps from xAI, and where they run. OpenBot runs the same agent, so you can use both.
| App | Runs on | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Grok Build | macOS, Linux, Windows | The coding agent, in the terminal or headless. It also speaks the Agent Client Protocol. |
| Grok Bot | macOS, Windows, Linux | A desktop agent for general tasks, not coding. Needs a paid Cursor plan or a SuperGrok plan linked to Cursor. |
Every plan an agent can use
Grok is one of them. Choose a provider for each agent, and change it later: the agent keeps its role, workspace and conversation.

Questions
Is there a GUI for the Grok CLI?
xAI documents no graphical app for Grok Build: it runs in the terminal, in scripts, or in an editor through the Agent Client Protocol. OpenBot runs it in a desktop app on macOS, Windows and Linux.
Which plan does Grok in OpenBot need?
xAI says you can try Grok Build for free. SuperGrok, at $30 a month, has higher limits, and SuperGrok Plus, at $100, has much more usage of Grok Build. An xAI API key also works, at API prices.
Is Grok Bot the same as Grok Build?
No. Grok Bot is xAI's desktop agent for general tasks on your computer. Grok Build is xAI's coding agent, and it is the one OpenBot runs.
Can Grok and Claude Code work together in OpenBot?
Yes. Each agent has its own provider. A Grok agent and a Claude Code agent can work in the same channel and give tasks to each other.
