Notes in your vault

Obsidian lets agents search, read and write the notes in your vault, so the vault can be their memory. The local server connects to the Local REST API plugin in the Obsidian app on this computer. The plugin's API key is passed to the local server as one environment variable. Keep Obsidian open while agents use it.

How to connect Obsidian to OpenBot

  1. Open Obsidian in OpenBot

Press Open in OpenBot on this page, or find Obsidian in the app's Apps tab. Get the app first if it is not on this computer.

  2. Add your API key

Press Connect and enter this value. OpenBot keeps it on the computer that runs OpenBot.

    • API key - In Obsidian, open Settings > Local REST API. Copy the API key and turn on "Enable non-encrypted (HTTP) server".
  3. Give an agent a task

Ask an agent for work that needs Obsidian, such as one of the example prompts below. The agent uses the plugin's tools to do it.

Example prompts3

  • ObsidianWhat do my notes say about the decisions on this project?
  • ObsidianSave this decision as a new note in my vault.
  • ObsidianAdd a summary of today's work to my Work log note.

Apps1

  • Obsidian

Note search, reading and editing, over a local MCP server with the Local REST API plugin key.
