# OpenBot > A free desktop app that runs AI agents as a team on your own computer, with the ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok plan you already pay for, or your own model. OpenBot is a desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux. Each agent has its own workspace, thread and history, and keeps them when you change its provider or restart the app. Agents can give work to other agents. Chats, files and workspaces stay on your computer; OpenBot has no server that holds them. The app is free for noncommercial use. iPhone and Android apps connect to OpenBot on your own computer. Each article below also has its text as Markdown, at its URL with `.md` added. [llms-full.txt](https://openbot.run/llms-full.txt) holds all of them in one file. ## Models and plans OpenBot sells no model. Each agent uses a plan or a key you already have: - ChatGPT: Your ChatGPT plan, through Codex. - Claude: Your Claude plan, through Claude Code. - Gemini: Your Google AI Pro or Ultra plan. - Grok: Your Grok account or an xAI API key. - Cursor: Your Cursor plan, or a Cursor API key. - OpenCode: Free models, or an OpenCode Go key. - Cline: Your Cline account, or a Cline API key. - Your own model: Any OpenAI-compatible server, also one on your computer. ## Download System requirements and install steps: [macOS](https://openbot.run/download/macos), [Windows](https://openbot.run/download/windows), [Linux](https://openbot.run/download/linux), [iPhone](https://openbot.run/download/ios), [Android](https://openbot.run/download/android). - [macOS](https://openbot.run/download/macos/latest): macOS 13 or later, Apple silicon - [macOS for Intel](https://openbot.run/download/macos/latest?arch=x64): macOS 13 or later, Intel - [Windows](https://openbot.run/download/windows/latest): Windows 10 or later, x64 - [Linux](https://openbot.run/download/linux/latest): x64 AppImage - [Linux for arm64](https://openbot.run/download/linux/latest?arch=arm64): arm64 AppImage - [Source code](https://github.com/nightly-labs/openbot): PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0 ## News Notes on building OpenBot: local-first storage, agents that outlive their provider, and how the pieces fit together. [All](https://openbot.run/news) - [Introducing OpenBot: A Shared Workspace for AI Agents](https://openbot.run/news/introducing-openbot): Meet OpenBot, a local-first workspace where the AI models you already use can work as a team of agents, alongside you and your coworkers. - [Your work stays on your computer](https://openbot.run/news/your-work-stays-on-your-computer): Workspaces, conversations and attachments live in a SQLite database you own. Here is what that rules out, and the one thing it does not. - [One agent, many providers](https://openbot.run/news/one-agent-many-providers): An agent keeps its workspace, its thread and its identity when you move it between Codex, Claude and Grok. Switching model should not cost you the context. - [Channels put agents in one room](https://openbot.run/news/channels-put-agents-in-one-room): A channel is a shared thread several agents read and write. It turns a pile of parallel chats into something closer to a team conversation. - [Routines give an agent a schedule](https://openbot.run/news/routines-give-an-agent-a-schedule): A routine is one instruction and the times to run it. The agent does the work in its own thread, so the result lands where the context already is. - [Every agent gets a workspace](https://openbot.run/news/every-agent-gets-a-workspace): One directory per agent, kept between runs, and one shared directory for handoffs. A workspace organizes an agent's work; it does not limit what the agent can touch. - [Run the team server yourself](https://openbot.run/news/run-the-team-server-yourself): Learn how self-hosting an OpenBot team server works, where conversations and files live, what the account service handles, and who is responsible for uptime. - [What gets redacted before it leaves](https://openbot.run/news/what-gets-redacted-before-it-leaves): Secrets are stripped at every path out of the app: logs, diagnostics, crash reports and analytics. Here is why we redact at the exit, not at the call site. ## Guides How OpenBot works and how to run a team of AI agents. [All](https://openbot.run/compare) - [OpenBot vs Instinct: A Private, Local Alternative](https://openbot.run/compare/instinct): Choose OpenBot if you want a team of AI agents on your own computer, with your data in a database that you hold, the AI plans you already pay for, and agents that show you a draft before they send a message for you: the app is free. Choose Instinct if you have an invite, and you want one assistant that you text or call, with no app to set up. - [Best AI Agent Apps in 2026: 13 Apps Compared](https://openbot.run/compare/best-ai-agent-apps): For one coding agent on one AI plan, pick Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or Antigravity. For an agent that keeps working with your computer off, pick a cloud agent like Devin, Manus, Claude Cowork or ChatGPT dots. If you want several of these agents working together on your own computer, with plans you already pay for, that's what we built OpenBot for. - [Codex vs Claude Code: Which Coding Agent to Use](https://openbot.run/compare/codex-vs-claude-code): Pick Codex if you pay for ChatGPT and care what each task costs. Pick Claude Code if you pay for Claude and want the top benchmark score, and can wait for it. Both start at $20 a month, and both run on your computer or in the cloud. - [Claude Code vs Antigravity: Claude or Gemini Agent](https://openbot.run/compare/claude-code-vs-antigravity): Pick Claude Code if you pay for Claude and want the stronger agent today. Pick Antigravity if you want Gemini, a free plan to start, and Claude models thrown in on Google AI Pro or Ultra. Antigravity's best score comes from a Gemini model that isn't public yet. - [Cursor vs Claude Code: Editor or Terminal Agent](https://openbot.run/compare/cursor-vs-claude-code): Pick Cursor if you want an editor with agents built in and models from several labs on one bill. Pick Claude Code if you want Claude's agent in the terminal and editor you already use. Both start at $20 a month, and both run agents on your computer or in the cloud. - [OpenBot vs ChatGPT dots: A Local Alternative](https://openbot.run/compare/chatgpt-dots): Choose OpenBot if you want a team of agents on your own computer, in any country, with your ChatGPT plan and the other AI plans you already pay for, such as Claude, Gemini or Grok: the app is free. Choose ChatGPT dots if you pay for ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium, and you want one always-on agent in OpenAI's cloud. - [OpenBot vs Devin: A Local Devin Alternative](https://openbot.run/compare/devin): Choose OpenBot if you want coding agents on your own computer that use the AI plans you already pay for, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok: the app is free. Choose Devin if you want an autonomous software engineer that works in Cognition's cloud, with no computer of yours on, and starts from Slack, GitHub, Linear or Jira. - [OpenBot vs Claude Cowork: A Local Alternative](https://openbot.run/compare/claude-cowork): Choose OpenBot if you want your agents on your own computer, with Claude and the other AI plans you already pay for, such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Grok: the app is free. Choose Claude Cowork if you use only Claude, and you want an agent in Anthropic's cloud that keeps working with no computer of yours on. - [OpenBot vs Manus: A Local Manus Alternative](https://openbot.run/compare/manus): Choose OpenBot if you want your agents on your own computer, with the AI plans you already pay for, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok: the app is free. Choose Manus if you want a general agent that works in its own cloud computer, keeps working with no computer of yours on, and chooses the model for you. - [OpenBot vs OpenClaw: An OpenClaw Alternative](https://openbot.run/compare/openclaw): OpenBot and OpenClaw are close: both run AI agents on your own computer, use the AI plans you already pay for, and have apps for desktop, iPhone and Android. Choose OpenBot if you want Codex, Claude Code, Gemini and Grok CLI to work as a team of separate agents, and to reach them from your phone anywhere with no VPN. Choose OpenClaw if you want one personal assistant that talks to you in WhatsApp, Telegram or Slack, under the MIT license. - [OpenBot vs Hermes Agent: A Hermes Agent Alternative](https://openbot.run/compare/hermes-agent): Both apps run AI agents on your own computer, and neither needs an account. Choose OpenBot if you want Codex, Claude Code, Gemini and Grok CLI to work as a team with the plans you already pay for, including Claude Pro or Max and Google AI Pro, and to reach them from iPhone and Android apps. Choose Hermes Agent if you want an open-source agent under the MIT license that learns skills over time and talks to you in messaging apps such as Telegram or WhatsApp. - [OpenBot vs Muse: A Local Alternative to Meta's Muse](https://openbot.run/compare/muse): For most people who want agents for their work, OpenBot is the better choice: your agents use the AI plans you already pay for, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok, or your own model. They run on your own computer, and the app is free. Choose Muse if you want one personal assistant from Meta that runs on Meta's cloud and helps with email and purchases. - [OpenBot vs Grok Bot: A Local Grok Bot Alternative](https://openbot.run/compare/grok-bot): For most people, OpenBot is the better choice: your agents use the AI plans you already pay for, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok, or your own model. They run on your own computer, and the app is free. Choose Grok Bot only if you want a cloud computer to run your Bots, so that you keep no computer of your own on. ## Providers Claude Code, Codex, Gemini, Grok, Cursor, OpenCode, Cline and local models in one desktop app: how to set each one up, and what OpenBot adds to it.
